Explain different kinds of network cables.


There are three main types of network cables:

  • Coaxial cable: This is the oldest type of network cable, and it consists of a single copper wire surrounded by an insulator, a braided metal shield, and an outer plastic jacket.     • Shielded twisted-pair (STP): This type of cable has a metal foil or braid that surrounds the twisted pairs of wires. The shield helps to block interference, but it also makes the cable more expensive and difficult to install.
  • Fiber optic cable: This type of cable transmits data using pulses of light instead of electrical signals. Fiber optic cable is the fastest and most reliable type of network cable, but it is also the most expensive. It is typically used for long-distance connections, such as between buildings or cities.

The best type of network cable for a particular application will depend on a number of factors, such as the distance the cable needs to cover, the speed of the network, and the amount of interference that is present.
